Well, I apparently am starting a new job tomorrow(Thursday)up in
Cleveland. Temp job through Aerotek, the agency I was with at Cisco. I
had totally written them off, good thing they didn't quit, nothing
else I have interviewed for is working out for me.

Second shift, so my wife and I will be on basically the same schedule
for once. I think the job is M-F, but I don't even know that much
right now. I am going into the Aerotek office early tomorrow
afternoon, I should get more details then. I hope.

Company is called Hexagram, they make utility meters that are remotely
readable. I haven't interviewed for this position, but i did interview
with them in July about a different one, so at least I know a bit
about them.
Pay is decent, still not Cisco money, but better than anything else I
have come across.

After about 6-7 weeks being unemployed, it is going to be a challenge
for the first few days to actually be working again, but I am hoping
that this job will be a decent one.

Here we go again.

Best of luck to you. The last time I was out of work, I had no luck going
through placement agencies. I got my current job because a friend-of-a-
friend knew the CFO of the company that ended up hiring me.

My best recommendation for you is to spend some time cultivating
friendships with people in the field who work for other companies. Join
professional organizations and civic service clubs. If you're a member of
a church, spend some time getting to know your fellow churchgoers. I just
hired a guy that my boss knew from church.

Russ,
How's the new job going?
Rob
You know the old saying "if you can't say anything good about
something don't say anything."?
Silence.
Well, I guess I should expand.
Maybe it is just me. I don't like being treated like I am a dime a
dozen, and I really don't like being treated like I should grovel and
do what ever the management says just to keep my job.
I am supposed to be fixing bad circuit boards. I spend maybe 2 nights
a week on the bench. Other nights I am gluing wires in housings,
screwing covers on, etc.
Mangement where I work obviously have no respect for the workers on
the floor. They seem to have the attitude that there are people
banging the door down to work there so shut up and do what we say.
Example. Working 4:30 pm to 1 am. So tomorrow we are supposed to be
there at 7am for mandatory overtime(which they only told us about
Wed.) I told my boss "no way, you told me the saturday hours were 3:30
pm to midnight, and I would be happy to be here then, but I am not
going to be here at 7 am". I am surprised I still have a job there. I
wish honestly that they would tell the agency that i was no longer
needed.

I have a chance to go back to Cisco with the agency I am with now. I
am supposed to find out next week-end of the month. If they say no,
then I am going to be giving notice for this job. I am only staying
this long with that agency becuase of that chance.

I don't like unions. I really don't. But this place makes me believe
that there are still companies out there that deserve to have the
workers organise.

Moving to Ohio was a major mistake career wise for me. At least moving
to this part(mid and north eastern). Cincinnatti and Dayton would have
been better for me as an RF tech, but I didn't grow up there. Up in
this area tech jobs are few and far between. I am having to try for
jobs that are really way too below my skill and experience level.

sorry, I am home tonight partly from being sick, and partly from being
sick of that place. Not in the best of moods.

Thanks for asking.

Sorry to hear that things haven't gone all that well. A friend of mine
lived in Cincinnati for about six years, and he's glad to be back in
Phoenix. The saying goes that Cincinnati is really part of Kentucky, and
my friend definitely agrees with that assessment.

My friend moved to Cincy because his wife got a great job with GE. He was
an independent contractor doing software development and project
management and quickly found the hourly rates in Cincy were crap compared
to Phoenix, and it was hard for him to get consistent work. He started a
computer forensics business a few years back when his software development
business seemed about dead and had hardly any business while in Cincy, in
spite of attending the state bar association convention every year as a
vendor. Now that they're back in Phoenix, his forensics business has
really started to take off.

Boy, tell me about it. Pay sucks here compared to Phoenix. It is an
Ohio thing, not just Cincy. Yeah, northern Kentucky. That is what I
tell my wife about that area.
Unfortunately, that is where most of the tech places are located.
There and Dayton.
I just found out I have an interview tomorrow for a place up here
(eastern Cleveland area) that makes RF test equipment. Pay will be
around 16-18 an hour. I am really hoping that I get it, at least I
would be doing RF tech work again. Place is called Bird Technologies.
I haven't heard of them, haven't had a chance to check out their
website yet.
I should have waited to retire here in Ohio. Living here is great,
working bites.
