Discussion:
Tipping a newspaper deliverer?
(too old to reply)

Sunday's paper came with a bonus: A little card from our newspaper
carrier, with a return-addressed envelope. Clearly, somebody's fishing
for a tip.

The trick: I've been in my current neighborhood a grand total of two
months (three by Xmas) and only get the paper on the weekends.

So, how much to tip? Am I tipping for the three months of twice a week,
or the upcoming year of twice a week?

Should I bother tipping at all? I am a *little* bit annoyed at the
presumption of the carrier. Hell, when I was a kid with a paper route, I
might have gotten three tips in two years, and I had to collect my own
subscription charges (and had frequent deadbeats who didn't pay me, even
though I still had to pay the newspaper company for their papers). The
person who delivers my paper drives by my house in his/her own car and has
several hundred customers, and doesn't have to catch me at home to get the
money for my subscription.

Possibly..

or the upcoming year of twice a week?
Nope. First the service(s) should be rendered.

If you would not otherwise have done it, then
there's proably no reason to now. It's all
become much different than when we were kids -
adults in pickup trucks with tons of newspapers
do it all now. If they can afford that then
they surely are not hurting financially either...

The Republic clown was unable to determine the location of my front door,
despite my describing it as the large brown door with the number next to
it and a peephole. So I canceled the thing and no longer have to deal
with this issue.

I go to the 7-11 and buy a paper when I feel the need.

I stopped getting the Repug a year ago and found I missed very little
by not getting it. The useful info, even in the thick sunday paper
amounts to about 10 minutes worth of reading and even then most of it
is stuff you can just as easily read or hear elsewhere - and probably
in greater, more accurate detail.

I've also noticed a strong trend in the last year, when I read the
occasional copy, of the Repug splashing the slightest good story about
Shrub on the front page and burying anything remotely negative about
him on page 18.

The only bad thing is that they have the only decent help wanted
section. I wish that either you could subscribe to just that, or that
they hadn't partnered with that website(Careers.com or whatever) and
no longer just put the actual paper classifieds on the web.
The Tribune's help wanted is a total joke.
Yes, I am looking (always) for a job.

I dunno...I've spent a lot less on computer toys since I stopped taking
the Repulsive with the Fry's ads. It seems I too often found something I
'needed' and I was working just down the road from Fry's so it was too
convenient for lunch-time visits. I've been on the wagon for a couple
years now...

Most of the stuff I've bought at Fry's has been free, or nearly so,
after the rebates.
