Tracert analysis (Aleron or MegaPop?)
(too old to reply)

I signed up for a dialup service with PowerHost.com that supposedly is using
the Aleron network, but the tracert from my Panix shell account to my IP sure
looks a lot like MegaPop to me. The POP number I am dialing is 530-494-0155,
which according to PowerHost is the same number you would use for MegaPop. How
can Aleron and MegaPop share the same POP?

I signed up for a dialup service with PowerHost.com that supposedly is using
the Aleron network, but the tracert from my Panix shell account to my IP sure
looks a lot like MegaPop to me. The POP number I am dialing is 530-494-0155,
which according to PowerHost is the same number you would use for MegaPop.
How can Aleron and MegaPop share the same POP?
Because they're a bunch of low-life sleeze balls? MegaPop is probably
getting pretty well known so now we have a name change to aliviate that
problem. MegaPop isn't all that bad, but they're not all that good
either. Even though they do provide dial-up shell access for Panix.

Not that MCI isn't a much much worse bunch of sleezes, but at least their
dial-up stuff (Alternet's actually) still works pretty well. It probably
costs more too though. I think even my price is around $20 a month now
(as an Alternet customer).

O1.COM should be another half-way decent one, I'll attempt to actually
phone them and find out what their story is tomorrow.

Just a bit of self promoting - we are offering nationwide dialup now
ourselves, using Ikano - who uses a large set of other carrier
networks. :-) Level3/Qwest/etc - it all depends on the city.
