I think it's possible that my website provider was hacked over the
weekend. (Or the link into Dallas from the west is broken.)

Please try to access:

http://www.analog-innovations.com

and report back what error message you get.

Thanks!

P.S. Don't try to send E-mail to me... that's hosed also :-(

The problem appears to be with your DNS. Whois at godaddy.com reveals
your two authoritative DNS servers are:

NS.ADTSOFT.COM
NS.BREAKINGNEWSNETWORK.COM

The first one doesn't respond to DNS queries for your domain. The second
reports no domain found. Methinks only the first DNS server ever actually
had your DNS entries (or perhaps it was the primary while the other was
secondary) and now that the first DNS server is hosed, your domain
effectively does not exist.

If you knew the IP address of your website, you could always try putting
that into your web browser to see if the hosting site is still up. Keep
in mind that shared hosting often uses the same IP address for multiple
domains and only sorts which domain to show you by the domain name in the
URL. You could get around that little problem by temporarily putting the
IP address of your hosting server into your HOSTS[1] file and then trying
to pull up your website in a browser.

[1] In Win9x, the HOSTS file is in the \WINDOWS directory, for NT/2K/XP,
it's in the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder. In any *NIX it's in /etc.

There had to have been at least two, one primary and one secondary.

Anyway I hope this is not a Go Daddy problem as I was just contemplating
moving some domains there. So do let us know who's fault this is. And
don't even think about moving to register.com, they already know how to
do this exact same crap.

So, if the above are really your name servers you need to speak with who
ever administers the primary site asap...

It's my son :-( NS.ADTSOFT.COM is down because he is moving and I
haven't been able to reach him.

But I don't know why BreakingNews isn't working.

I'm thinking of moving everything to GoDaddy as well. Nice write-up

It probably tried to update your zone (as it's called in the world of
dns) and when the zone transfer failed it decided to call you gone...

I imagine you could get Breaking News to fix this, but you might need
to send them a good copy of your zone file. Or maybe they have an old
copy somewhere...

Hmmm, strange. Actually I made a reload of the site exactly
to avoid the caching.

Now I tried it from my home computer and I can't reach it
anymore. Also nslookup does not return an IP address.
Perhaps it is a pure name server problem. I guess
our caching name server still kept the IP address this afternoon,
but has removed it now.

Well, just in case this ever comes up again -

First you'd crank down the cache times on your zone, which may
require some time to take effect (mine is currently set at one
week). Then you'd fire up some backup servers, then after the
caches have expired and are on the new shorter time you'd have
your domain registrar point the root servers to the new (backup)
servers. Then after waiting the cache period to be sure every-
thing has moved to the backups, the old server can be taken off
line and moved, and after that's done you'd reverse all the above.

Longer cache times lessen the load on the dns servers, and in
general are a good idea.

As well be aware all dns servers you list in the root servers
will get hit, in round robin rotation. Some people use many,
I've come to the conclusion that just two good ones are enough.
Unless you have an extremely high traffic site that is....

Yea, does and usually is a DNS problem. Hackers dont usually go for the obscure web sites, unless

Yesterday at work I tried to browse www.vnunet.com and it came back
with Host not found. Last night I could get on it from home, so this
morning I asked one of the network guys why it wasn't out there.
After a lengthy investigation, they found that a BT Internet class B
IP range was being denied access by the router, because we were being
attacked by a DOS attack from BT internet. So they opened up a couple
holes in that range for the DNS and mail servers. Now it works okay.

Isn't so nice to have folks who foul up things so easily, and will
undo their foulups, if someone only holds their feet to the fire and
gets them to actually DO something??? Sheesh.

I think it's possible that my website provider was hacked
over the weekend. (Or the link into Dallas from the west is
broken.)
http://www.analog-innovations.com
and report back what error message you get.
Thanks!
P.S. Don't try to send E-mail to me... that's hosed also :-(

Looks like the new DNS rippled thru *much* faster than
expected... everything is back up this morning.

Yesterday at work I tried to browse www.vnunet.com and it came
back with Host not found. Last night I could get on it from
home, so this morning I asked one of the network guys why it
wasn't out there. After a lengthy investigation, they found
that a BT Internet class B IP range was being denied access by
the router, because we were being attacked by a DOS attack
from BT internet. So they opened up a couple holes in that
range for the DNS and mail servers. Now it works okay.

Particularly bad in the ISP/webhosting business. So many
know-everything-arogant-but
-barely-literate assholes. I had to change my webhost a couple times.
I did a good research on the second one before I signed up with them,
searched google
for any bad reviews and found nothing but praises. 6 months later they got
really bad and
their support turned into the 9 circles of dante's inferno.
Featureprice.com, stay away from
them, if you know what's good for you. If you do google on them now you find
lawsuits,
horror stories, dedicated hate websites...

The story with the first one was not that extreme, but they pissed me off a
few times really
bad. Once they deleted my cgi directory without prior questions because one
of my scripts
looked suspicious. It was just a harmless index generator for the website.
And even though
I canceled their service more than one year ago they charged my credit card
again recently.
And they don't respond to emails/complaints any more. cismanagment.com,
another nice one.

Yep, It's backed up. I'm old and multi-times burned ;-)

It was a DNS issue and all addresses will ripple thru to new servers
by tomorrow.

My mistake was hanging my hat on my son's "hobby" :-(
