Discussion:
How can I read Mac .DMG files on a PC?

I have some .dmg files that I'd like to read under XP. I've found that
they're ISO-ish files for the Macintosh.

I want to be able to extract the data in the .dmg file. I don't
necessarily want to burn it to a disc. I just want the data inside. If I
have to burn it to a CD so I can read it, that's fine, but I figure
there's got to be a way that doesn't involve burning.

I read that you can just rename the .dmg extension to .iso, but that
doesn't seem to work. Neither Nero nor Daemon Tools can read it.

I tried installing MacDrive, but it doesn't give me any option to open up
the .dmg file or burn it as a complete CD.

Can anyone give me a hand in figuring this out?

Nope, cause it's a compressed (by Apple's Disk Copy) format.
You'd have to uncompress the filesystem first.

You'd need at least a copy of Apple's Disk Copy (and some way
to execute it) for this.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I now have a Mac notebook running OS X
you could use for this.
